Cumberland River Greenway - Downtown, page 2

Trail Notes:

There are no directional signs to the trailheads. If you are unfamiliar with the area, be sure to bring directions. Follow the directions on Page 1 of Cumberland River Greenway - Downtown or Goggle it.

We did not give directions to the Downtown Trailhead. It is north of Fort Nashboro off First Ave.

great circle

The older kiosks have not been updated to reflect additions to the trail (Winter 2010).

The trailheads and kiosks looked great.

The greenway has mileage posts and benches. The mileage numbers are only oriented for traveling toward Metro Center.

The mileage posts include the initials CRDT - Cumberland River Downtown.

1.75 mileage post

The mileage posts would allow you to travel an exact distance.

Some of the mileage posts were missing or were not placed (Winter 2010).

It would probably be faster to ride a bicycle on the path between Great Circle Trailhead and Downtown, than it would be to drive.

It was fun seeing glimpses of the skyline and knowing you were walking to that area.

There were no restrooms and only limited water along the path.

The Greenway is flat.

art along the path

We walked and then rode the path on the weekend and there was very little traffic. Users should practice caution in the industrial areas and in crossing all roads.

Use care when riding a bike near the Readi-Mix Plant. There is a lot of sand on the path.

looking at the Pedestrian Bridge

Bi-Centennial Mall is a worth while side trip. It is .40 miles one way to 6th Ave on the east side of the Park. You can easily add 2 miles to your adventure with the path to the Park, exploring the Park and Farmer's Market, and then returning to the Greenway.

Beyond the Downtown Trailhead, you can continue past 1st Ave Honky Tonks and Riverfront Park to Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. Access to the bridge is by steps or elevator on 2nd Ave or steep ramp on 3rd Ave.

From Pedestrian Bridge

The Pedestrian Bridge Crosses to East Nashville and LP Field - Titans Stadium. Bike lanes continue to Shelby Park and Shelby Bottom Greenway.
